Florida was discovered by Ponce de León in 1513 while seeking the fountain of youth, and claimed as Spain’s property. Spain sold Florida to the United States in the year 1819.
In the early 19th century Florida had a history of wars involving the Seminole Indians that eventually ended in 1842.
Florida economy is fueled by high tourist activity, agriculture, and manufacturing based on electronics, printing, transportation, food and machinery. Oranges and other citrus fruits lead Florida’s agricultural products, followed by melons, potatoes, strawberries, peanuts, sugar cane, dairy products, and cattle.
There are several tourist attractions in Florida, some of the major attractions are Palm Beach, Miami, Daytona Beach, St. Augustine, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, and Key West.
In the Orlando area is where Disney World is located, Florida’s most popular tourist destination. Some other popular destinations in Florida are the Epcot Center, NASA Kennedy Space Center, Universal Studios, Seaworld and the Everglades National Park.
